SDI introduces NJACC instrumentation cable checker.

Lake Orion, MI - Sensor Developments Inc. is introducing a new product designed to evaluate instrumentation cables. The NJACC Cable Checker, (model 90280), utilizes inexpensive plug-in adapter boards to receive any connector with up to 30 pins (plus the shell). Pigtail connections can also be accommodated using a quick connect wire header adapter. The cable checker plugs into the serial port of any standard PC and a companion "windows based" program allows the user to check:

  • "Shorted" interconnections
  • Incorrect "pin-outs"
  • Cold solder joints
  • Shorts to ground
  • Actual "pin to pin" resistance's from 0 to 1 meg

The software allows fast visual interpretation of all interconnections, associated resistance values, and also stores custom cable configurations for future reference. Future software releases will upgrade the system to allow checking "Bridge Type" sensors with the same hardware. When a sensor is "plugged into" the checker, it will automatically determine:

  • Probable "wheatstone bridge" configurations
  • Individual "bridge arm" resistance's
  • Location of opens or shorts
  • Plus, if the sensor contains "auto-id", it will read and write EEPROM data for the sensor
